There are some trends that never go out of style; Colour blocking is such a classic trend that has been around for decades now. As the name suggests, it is simply wearing multiple blocks of colours in one piece or an outfit.
There are several ways to try this trend without having to spend on an entirely new wardrobe by buying stand-alone outfits. One such way is to go monochromatic i.e. one colour throughout the entire outfit in different hues. For instance – pairing a navy blue bottom with a light blue top. This approach is apt if you are not in a mood to go bold.
Another way is to colour block separates in complementary colours. The thought of wearing a bright shirt with an equally bright bottom may seem overwhelming at first, but when paired correctly, the look can be extremely chic! I paired my mustard yellow top with blue wide legged pants. The trick is to balance the outfit with neutrals (white, grey, camel); here I chose to go for grey block heels and off white clutch bag.
If you are not much of a colours person, you can also try a classic black and white colour block or work with accessories.
Colour blocking your look doesn’t have to be complicated. Below I have listed my favourite block schemes:
- Red and Pink
- Green and Purple
- Pink and Orange
